2020:   UPSC contributes to Food Banks

With the current limited face-to-face opportunities for community service, UPSC officers voted to make a one-time $1,500 donation in late 2020 on behalf of UPSC to each of the following 5 local Labor Council Food Banks during the COVID-19 pandemic. These 5 food banks were previously vetted by and donated to by UNAC/UHCP:  OC Food Bank, Riverside Family and Kids Foundation, Partnership for a Better San Diego, Los Angeles Labor Community Services and Food Share Ventura County.

In this way, UPSC can assist all local communities within our Affiliate’s Southern California Region, establish relationships that we can leverage in the future, and pay it forward to those that have lost jobs or are in a neededful situation, due to COVID-19 ,while we are fortunate to still be employed.

Here are some of the responses we have received from these food banks, and the link to their websites in case you want more information or wish to contribute on an individual basis :

"Thank you very much your group’s generous donation for 2021. It really made a difference in the families that we served."  (

“The donation from United Pharmacists of Southern California is greatly appreciated.

With your organization’s donation, the Partnership for a Better San Diego was able to feed hundreds of families in San Diego though our ongoing food pantry in City Heights. Union members and general public are able to take advantage of this pantry that provides a wide range of food along with diapers for children.

Thank you,  Christina Ghadieh, Partnership for a Better San Diego”
